About Us

Founders of AussieSlang in Melbourne cafe

Our Journey

AussieSlang began in 2015 when two language enthusiasts, Megan Crawford and James Wilson, recognized a common challenge faced by international students and visitors to Australia. Having taught English in Melbourne for several years, they noticed that even those with excellent formal English skills struggled to understand everyday conversations with locals.

What started as a small blog with weekly slang explanations quickly grew into a comprehensive resource. Within six months, they were receiving hundreds of emails from grateful readers who finally understood what their Australian colleagues meant by "fair dinkum" or why someone invited them to "bring a plate" to a party without specifying what should be on it.

By 2018, Megan and James had developed their first formal course, expanded their team to include cultural experts and linguists, and established their headquarters on Melbourne's iconic Flinders Lane. Today, AussieSlang is recognized as the leading authority on Australian vernacular, helping thousands of people navigate the colorful linguistic landscape of Down Under.
